Games and creative innovations on offer:

1. Ned by PeeBee Games

Ned, an action platformer loosely based around the life of Ned Kelly (well, we stole his iconic image), only now, Ned needs to find out what has caused the animals to go crazy, and what’s all that green glowing ooze?

2. Working Class Weyland by Kinsley

Working Class Weyland is a fast paced platformer, with a comedy twist!

3. Forests of Faerynova by Go Studio

FPS Adventure (Weapon is a camera)

Mission: The adventure for the player character protagonist, Felix, begins at her holiday cottage where she is ready to explore the walking trails of the Forests of FaeryNova… She is alerted on arrival that things are not as expected, with some of the walking trails closed by a cult of scientists, rumours heard in the local village she passes through on the way – that the enemy scientists are capturing the local, elusive faeries for the purpose of secret experiments. As the player, you are sent a plea for help from the faeries, communicated through their magic, to find a way to prove their existence and close down their evil hunters. You are led to items which will enable success in this mission – a special camera for taking faery photos to compile the evidence needed to save them, equipped with a lumina-daze flash which stuns the enemies before they can deal damage with their tazers!

4. Fluttering Souls by Nurse Shark Games

Fluttering Souls is based on the tale of The White Butterfly. An old Japanese story where the souls of loved ones take on the form of white butterflies to visit those who remain in the living world.

It is a 2 player strategy, set collection micro game; made up of 3 – 5 rounds. In each round, players take turns collecting butterflies which are worth victory points, either in a set or by themselves. The player that collects the most victory points at the end of a round is awarded a White Butterfly Token; a visit from a lost loved one. The first player to collect 3 White Butterfly Tokens is the winner.

5. Bright by Illuminoodle

Created at the Nordic Game Jam 2018 “Bright” is a first time creation by a Danish cross Perth collective going by the name Illuminoodle. The game is about painting colour back into a darkened world to overcome its challenges. It is a PC, Puzzle side scroller game.

6. Sea Wars by Graham Lockhart

Sea Wars is a table top game utilising innovative card and miniature game mechanics. Most of the rules are designed into the games components and play aides to reduce the size of the rulebook and help facilitate ease of play and accessibility to players with little or no subject knowledge.

Sea Wars is a World War 2 Naval Combat System Table Top game.

Players 2+ | Age 10+ | Time 1 – 2 Hours

7. Inti by Jose Zamalloa

The forest tree is ill! Spirit champions are on a quest to find magic stones to recover its strength. Inti is a fun, bright family game about forest spirits, animals in a fantasy realm.

Ages 8+ up to 6 players lasting about 30-45 minutes.

8. Tower of Aegis by Jakal Studios

Tower of Aegis is a procedually generated platformer where the player fights and climbs to the top.

Knightfall is coming along well. #gamedev #indiedev #platformer #procedualGeneration pic.twitter.com/ZekZX34dOA

— JB ⚔ Tower of Aegis ⚔ (@JAKL_) March 4, 2018

9. It Will Be Hard by Hien Pham

It Will Be Hard is a light interactive erotica of two men with polar opposite sexualities working toward one mutually fulfilling relationship.

10. Blocky Roll by Gnomic Studios & Pale Blue Dot

Blocky Roll challenges you to navigate our hero Blocky to the end of the level by – wait for it – rolling! Blocky is presented with seemingly simple puzzles that become increasingly devious and difficult to master.

11. The Adventures of Square, Epsiode 2 by Bigbrik Games

A frantic-paced FPS of paintball guns and sentient polygons in a colourful cartoony world – a game all ages can enjoy.

12. Baron: Fur’s Going to Fly by Dogmelon

The dawn of aviation. A battle for control of the skies. Fur is going to fly!

A multiplayer game of aerial combat, set in the First World War. The pilots are animals. The weapons may or may not be historically accurate. Choose your aviator and challenge your friends. It’s going to get wild.

Featured Games and Experiences (so far…*)

Lost & Hound by Daisy Ale Soundworks
Lost & Hound, a scent tracking dog adventure game, where you go on search and rescue missions to find lost people. The mechanics are audio heavy, and the game is fully accessible to vision impaired gamers.

The Coins of McGuffin Trading Card Game by David Green
The trading card game for fans of…well…everything. In this 2-5 player game you battle your favorite fandoms against others to see which geeky TV show/Film/Book/Sport/Comic/etc will come out on top. It’s like Tumblr but in real life!

Baron by Dogmelon
The dawn of aviation.
A battle for control of the skies.
Fur is about to Fly.
~~~
Baron is multiplayer action game where players take control of biplanes in WW1-era battles.
This is no historical simulation. The pilots are cute furry animals, and technology includes weapons such as freeze rays, flamethrowers, falling anvils, and even the simple banana.
Battles take place on a single screen, for intense action and laugh-out-loud fun.
Merchants & Mercenaries by Echidna Games
Merchants and Mercenaries is a hectic real-time strategy that looks and feels like the board games you love, with none of the waiting. Expand your empire, get resources and trade them, hire merchants to discover new riches or hire mercenaries to take it all. There’s no one way to play, or even to win, but you’d better be fast!
Inti by Jose Zamalloa
Inti is a 20 to 30 minute game aimed for 2-6 players, ages 8+ set in a fantasy themed world where you take the role or a tiny forest spirit sent on a quest to collect magic sun stones to revive their Elder Tree. Only by facing dangerous monsters, avoiding devious monkeys and helping forest animals can you find these powerful stones and save your home!
Mercury Blue by Turbo Chimp
Mercury Blue is a sci-fi comedy adventure for Windows PC. It is a classic point-and-click puzzle game at its core, but also contains lush 3D environments as well as action packed mini-games throughout the adventure.
Working Class Weyland by Liam Kinsella
A parody platformer game, with a dark twist
Event Date: Friday, 19th May 2017.
Hey Playup Perth-ers,
After a rather successful Playup Perth: KicksART Special Edition, in partnership with Propel Youth Arts last month, we’re back with another Friday night date, featuring games and drinks and fun, plus a few exciting announcements you won’t want to miss!
  • Date: Friday, 19th May 2017
  • 6pm til late
  • The Nostalgia Box, 3/16 Aberdeen St, Perth WA 6000
  • $10 – Buy tickets here
  • Cheap drinks all night! (yes this event is 18+)
*This venue is 100% wheelchair accessible
See you on the 19th,
— Kate
Featured Games and Experiences (so far…*)
1) Bounce-Break by Bear-Tooth Studios – A puzzle platformer where the player has only two choices – either bounce off walls or break through them!
2) Samurai Showdown by Otterspace Games – After a successful showing at Playup Perth’s KickStART Special Edition for younger gamers, this fast-paced, button-mashing, multiplayer arcade death-match is back to show the adults who’s boss. Only speed and accuracy will decide the victor!
3) Desert Child by Oscar Brittain is a racing RPG set in a dusty world where your only friends are a vintage hoverbike and a packet of instant noodles. The player begins their rags-to-riches story on a ruined Earth, with just a few days to get enough money to get to Mars. From there, you’ll win races, customize your bike, and earn fans, but at the same time you’ll have to work jobs, cook dinner, and pay rent. Nothing’s free in Desert Child.
4) Elemental Forces by Rhys Walters is a two-player board game of strategy and chance that rewards those willing to make sacrifices as much as those determined to hold on to what they have.
5) The Coins McGuffin by David Green is a trading card game for fans of…well, everything! Whether it’s TV shows, books, video games or movies, everyone has a fandom they love. The Coins of McGuffin TCG pitches your fandom against that of your friends in a card battling arena. You can create your own custom decks and discover new fandoms as you collect them all.
6) Balants by Dogmelon studio – Face opponents in a frenetic battle that only one team will survive. Capture opposing blobs, or wipe them from the board completely. But think fast: they’ll try to do the same to you!
7) Leap of Faith by Numbat Byte is a platformer where you have to beat the boss and jump off. But where will you go next?
8) I am King by Kyle Neal is a political-satire strategy card game where players use their favourite or not-so-favourite politicians to become Supreme Leader!
* Watch this space for other games we’ll be testing as they are confirmed!
Do you want to playtest your game?
PlayUp Perth provides a willing audience of testing guinea pigs for you to inflict your alpha and beta-builds on.
You’ll get heaps of feedback on what’s great, what sucks and how to make it better!
We love physical games, community games, hybrid games, street games, alternate reality games, video games, mobile games… or something we’ve never even thought of yet.
So what are you waiting for? Submit your game for testing now!
